I will be spending a couple of nights with my family in Las Vegas late next month. Any recommendations for 1 magic show (I'm leaning towards Copperfield) and one non-magic Cirque du Soleil show? Also, any recommendations on best way to book on-line?

Mac King. No one comes close. Especially for family.

You should definitely go see Copperfield.

I think mystere is the best of the Vegas cirque shows. (the focus is on amaZing performers in a spectacular environment, as opposed to being on a spectacular environment with performers). Having said that, I hear absinthe is the new hot ticket in town.

Absinthe was mentioned by every local I had asked for recommendations as to what to see. I didn't get to see it as got caught up in an eight hour dinner. Absinthe's website does recommend it for those 18 and over.

Mac King is definitely a best bet for a family show.

For an illusion show, I would agree with Richard. When I saw him in Feb, he was the best I'd seen in quite a while. Plus his new butterfly routine was a definite winner.

I have to agree on Mac King. The Lion King at Mandalay is also great for children. It is the full show and hasn't been cut like some other Broadway shows were. It also closes this year, and the theater is very nice. If you can go downtown, the Fremont Street light show is hard to beat for kids and adults, and it is free.

No votes for LOVE?! I, too toss in a vote for Mac King.

I was pleased to see the votes for Mystere, which was the first Cirque I saw, the one I've seen the most (6 times), and the one that is the most magical. I haven't seen it in awhile, so I trust that the recent votes means it has kept up to its high standards. Next for me came O, which has some spectacular stunts you will see nowhere else, including a guy who sets himself ablaze. It made the Criss Angel "fire" episode early in his tv series look wimpy. But LOVE? You bet. I loved it and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. I would of course only recommend it to Beatles fans, so in this context it gets only my third-place recommendation, but that is still a heartfelt recommendation. I bought the album.

Thanks for the advice. I have booked David Copperfield and Mystere. I will probably also go see Mac King by myself when the ladies go out and do something that they would rather do like shopping.

The reviews of Absinthe sounded good, but my daughter is 2 years short of the 18 admission age and we already will have to leave her out if we go to the Magic Castle during the following week in LA.

Mac King is a wonderful show. Recommend it to anyone. And a great price too.

If you go all the way through Harrah's to the service desk way in the back, you can ask for vouchers for the Mac King show. They'll drop your cost down to $13 or so.

The vouchers are free for the asking; you just have to know where to ask.

I sent a friend to see Mac, and she arrived at the airport but her luggage did not. She was really bummed out, but went to see Mac anyway that first afternoon. She reported that Mac completely turned her spirits around and was the highlight of the trip. The luggage eventually made it, but Mac made the trip for her.

Mac King, David Copperfield and Mystere were all great shows. Highly recommended to anyone who goes to Vegas.
