Does anyone have any information on where the annual Houdini Seance will be held this year?

I am sorry but I don't know or can't remember the exact location, but will be where Ray Goulet lives.

It may not be THE Houdini Seance, but A Houdini Seance is an annual event by the Chicago S.A.M. Assembly as part of National Magic Week. It is open to the public (and magicians, of course). Details for this year's seance will be announced in the coming weeks.

I am sorry to say that whomever this organization is is, using the "Official Houdini Seance", may be in trademark infringement of the mark that is owned by Tom Boldt and Sid Radner.

I just located the information. The Official Houdini Seance(r) is registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark office and owned by Sid Radner. The registration number is 2,952,290.

This other seance is definitely infringing upon an existing registered mark.

The web page you directed us to for the event could be improved with a link at the bottom of the page back to your site's home page so people can find more information about the museum.

I've recieved a few emails asking about the picture. It is from our Desfor collection and was taken on October 30, 1948. The location is Walter Gibson's apartment in NYC.

I have been to your Houdini Shops in Las Vegas and must complilment you on the great job you are doing. Dorothy Dietrich and my self vist there often. (Dick Brooks)

YOUR information on the registration of Official Houdini Seance is quite interesting. We have been doing ours in New York City and in Scranton for over 30 years with well known magicians along with members and presidents of the SAM, as well as with the sanction and attendance of the Blood family (s far a I know the only people still in magic related to Bess and Harry in any way). We have newspaper articles and video tapes to attest to our doing them with such famous magicians as the great Milbourne Christopher and the very legendary and wonderful Walter B. Gibson, who had passed the mantel to Dorothy. According to a search on the web, "Official Houdini Seance" was trademarked way after our use in the 1970's, 1980's, 1990's etc., possibly to try to take it from us.

HERE IS THE INFO. Please note by they registration itself was in 2002 with their first use in 2001 as stated by them, long after our first use. Nobody should claim to "OWN" Houdini. The seances go way back to 1927. All seances should be official as that is what Bess and Saint wanted. I do not believe Sid Radner ever met or saw Houdini, as my father did. I am not sure if he ever met his wife. SO HOW CAN HIS BE THE "OFFICIAL" SEANCES? Everyone who does a Houdini Seance should be able to call it official if they do it honestly and in the way Bess Houdini and Edward Saint would have approved. Let us ALL keep magic and Houdini alive!
