I was buying a few books and I accidentally came across this new book to be released next year.
I'm not sure if its been mentioned on here yet.
It should be interesting.

Re: ricky jay new book
Publication date is May 5, which usually means it will available a month earlier. So probably the first week or two in April.
I hadn't heard about this previously, so thanks for posting. Jay has been fascinated with Buchinger, who had no arms or legs, for many decades. Should be an interesting book.

If you pre-order it through Amazon between now and November 30th (or any printed book, for that matter) you can enter the gift code HOLIDAY30 at checkout and get an additional 30% off.

Thanks for the tip, which led to a corrected date of publication:

Re: ricky jay new book
How come books are sometimes available before the publication date?
Is that because there are review copies floating around?

Hmmm... Amazon has cancelled the pre-order and taken the book off of their site. I checked other booksellers, and they have taken it down, as well.

I received the same email from Amazon early this morning, Evan.
There is also nothing on the W.W. Norton site.

Re: ricky jay new book
This reminds me of a similar situation with Russell Barnhart's book, Dens of Iniquity - A Life Among Gamblers, Cheaters and Theives.
The book was listed on Amazon prior to publication and remained listed for months. The book was never published and eventually was removed from the Amazon site.
An interesting thing ...
I just did a check on the Barnhart book and although it has never been published, Amazon now lists two copies available, one new and one in used-very good condition.
Both are from the same seller and both are priced at $2432.64 + $3.99 shipping.
Is this somehow for real?

Russell's autobiography was never published due to his dementia. I have no idea what happened to the manuscript--maybe that's what the seller has.

The shipping is always the deal breaker.

Re: ricky jay new book
The book is still listed on several sites, so I pinched the ad copy (below). I see that it had a $40 list price, which is pretty high unless it's a coffee table/art book.
Matthew Buchinger: The Greatest German Living
by Ricky Jay
WW Norton | May 5, 2015 | Hardcover
Born in Germany in 1674, Matthew Buchinger moved to the British Isles where he was notorious for his exhibitions of conjuring, swordplay, bowling, and dancing. He played over half a dozen musical instruments, though he had no arms or legs. He was only twenty-nine inches tall but married four times and fathered fourteen children. Buchinger was also a master of calligraphic styles and he often created micrographic specimens that were only visible with the aid of magnification. Samples of his work grace many important collections, as do the handbills and broadsides featuring his amazing skills. This fascinating and beautiful volume is the result of one such collection and combines Ricky Jay’s passion for the extraordinary with his erudition as a scholar.

Re: ricky jay new book
When one looks at the stable of publishers used by Ricky Jay, there is no appearance of "stability" or "loyalty" (for lack of better words). Apparently they could not come to terms in some respect. I suspect that the book will eventually be published.

Whenever you sign a contract with a publisher, it always includes a clause for first right of refusal on your next book. Usually people hop from publisher to publisher in order to get a higher advance.

WW Norton would have been a new publisher for Ricky. His last one was McSweeny's Books (San Francisco). Prior to that it was Quantuck Lane Press.
