Like the writer indicates, I doubt that many of our younger people will be entertained by Johnny's show as much as we were when it was originally aired. Nevertheless, Johnny was an expert at comedic timing and a master of the double entendre, which is probably a large part of what made him so popular at the time. Much of what was amusing or titillating fifty years ago is considered pretty mild by today's standards. It didn't hurt to have a cavalcade of terrific guests including the likes of Frank Sinatra.

I was born in Johnny's hometown and my Dad actually attended high school with him, so he has always been something of a hometown hero to me and my brothers. The nearest I ever came to actually meeting him was pulling into a gas station as he was leaving.

I will be watching, for sure.

In brief, the article is about Antenna TV broadcasting repeats of Johnny Carson's Tonight Show (although they're just billing it as Johnny Carson) beginning January 1, 2016.

There's a half hour preview special called Heeere's Johnny! on PIX - the New York parent station. The picture quality ranges from fair to fuzzy, but I'll be watching. (And I know Dustin will be as well.)

So in addition to Johnny Carson reruns, it looks like old Dick Cavett shows will be rerun as well. I wonder what magicians will turn up there?

On Cavett?

Slydini, one hopes.

Anybody want to start instructing us as to how much better modern talk show hosts are?

Cause we could use a few laughs around here.

Hasn't the Slydini footage been released already? I remember seeing Cavett link to at least one appearance from an online column (New York Times?) he was doing.

Tonight's listing has "amateur magician" Jim King on the bill.

Did anyone here know him?

He was from Rapid City, South Dakota and passed away in 2012.

Here's "The Tonight Show" clip:

Here's his obituary - which loads rather slowly on my laptop:
