2015 Magic Calendars

Postby Dustin Stinett » October 11th, 2014, 8:40 pm

Last year, by the time I mentioned getting my 2014 magic-themed calendar, they were sold out. So the lesson is, order now.

The site I ordered mine from has two for 2015 (so far): A regular (12"x12") wall calendar and a smaller "easel" style.

The wall calendar:

The Easel style:

Order now before they are all gone again!

Thanks for posting this Dustin!

Every year, when the calendar kiosk appears in malls, I always look for a Magic themed calendar but never see any.

The one exception is the year that the TASCHEN MAGIC book originally came out. That year (2009?), TASCHEN offered a few nice calendars.

This is one calendar I won't throw away!

Considering the announcement several months ago about the new Genii store offering "cool stuff", I'm disappointed by the lack of a calendar featuring contributors from our favorite magic magazine that we can purchase. This would be a big seller.

Unfortunately Zazzle doesn't produce calendars.

The option for Make Your Own 2015 Calendar provides quantities as high as 500, much more than what a typical individual would want or need. This would seem to be geared toward commercial sales like the Genii store. And unlike everything else on the Genii store that is primarily a one time purchase, everyone needs a different calendar every single year.

Ah, this is why Richard will probably not do it. I believe, and he can correct me if I am wrong, none of the other things he is offering in the Genii Store require a minimum purchase.

Perhaps my last post was unclear. 500 was not a minimum requirement, it's an option. Mugs and mouse pads on Zazzle can both also be ordered in quanitites of 500. But the minimum for all products appears to only be 1, although it is more expensive to do so.

Any thoughts on this Richard? Zazzle's make your own calendar page specifically states No minimum orders • No setup fees • The most options! Although creating 12 unique pages would take more time to produce than artwork for a mug, I would think a calendar would be more lucrative. http://www.zazzle.com/make_your_own_201 ... 5601825614

Why not just use Zazzle to make up your own 'one of a kind' calendar with your favourite magic images?

I'm sure Zazzle can handle that.

Always an option, of course. I think what MManchester is asking about is a Genii-centric calendar using photos of columnists or favorite covers (the Vernon cover, the Erdnase cover, etc.) that have copyrights versus one using public domain images.

Though, after some thought, I don't know if Richard would consider creating a calendar that has a limited market within magic: a general magic-themed calendar might sell better since non-subscribers can use the store. Not to mention that he would have to make arrangements with said columnists and cover subjects to use their images to make a profit (a great big-ol'-can-o-worms).

If I wanted my own personal magic calendar, certainly there are many options for Print On Demand. As a Genii subscriber and fan of the publication, I was thinking that this was something that would be appropriate for the store and would appeal to others.

The particular form the calendar would take is not an issue for me. The images I used were intended just to spark conversation. As Dustin notes, something more general would probably be a better seller and less complicated to produce. I can conceive this as being quite beautiful; a combination of historical and contemporary photographs, sidelines of anecdotes, selected tricks from the archives. There are many possibilities, although I don't know if time permits this year.

I didn't know Richard was in Japan and didn't mean to sound rash.

I don't think anyone took it as rash. I think we're all just "thinking out loud." I do like the idea of a Genii calendar, and there might be options that Richard—or Liz—can think of that we have not.

I just had me an idea. Anyone remember THIS?

What if (big WHAT IF) we had something like that, but random years on each month? (January might be 1946 while, as in the example, December is 1959, etc. etc.)

Again, just a thought. It would certainly make it different each subsequent year.

Stan Allen tried printing MAGIC magazine calendars for years. He sold very few. It's not a product that most people want, and Zazzle's prices are generally pretty high.

The retail price appears to be pushing $30. That's a lot for a calendar, particularly when you can get the one I posted for about $15.

AND it's really easy to spend the requisite $30 to get the free shipping. I did some Christmas shopping when I got mine (and I only had a 15% discount...oh well).

Thanks for posting this... It will replace this year's Nintendo desk calendar.
