Had Martin Gardner lived he would be 100 years old this month and both MUM and Scientific American note this in their current issue.

In September of 2010 I posted Gardner’s Perverse Power in the Perverse Magic thread of this forum and in that posting I said:

Martin Gardner published a trick called “Power” in the February 1938 issue of The
Jinx (number 41 page 280). This is my interpretation of that fine effect.

Martin Gardner published many books about magic, including, my favorite, his
Encyclopedia of Impromptu Magic.

Years ago I became interested in philosophy, more particularly, the philosophy of
time and in my studies I came across an article called “Can Time Go
Backwards?” written by Martin Gardner. I never dreamed it was the same Martin
Gardner.

In 1997 I began to correspond with Martin Gardner about philosophy and magic
and I think he enjoyed discussing the magic more.

Martin Gardner passed away on May 22, 2010 at the age of 95.

There's more on Martin Gardner in the October issue of Scientific American. The article celebrates Martin's 100th birthday. There's also some online items at:
