Google has pretty much become the standard of excellence as far as search engines go. They're taking on two interesting projects right now.
One is a full text search of television shows. Basically, you type in your keywords, and they will search through the closed captioning of all the programs in their archive. Right now it's somewhat limited, but you can view snippets of relevant text along with screen shots. In the future, they'll have video clips available. A quick search on the word "magician" showed that John Lovick was recently on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire". Pretty cool. Check it out at http://video.google.com
The other project is a full text search of books. They dont' have an active demo right now, but you can go to http://print.google.com/ for more info. They're teaming up with publishers and libraries to give people a new way to search for books. Results will give you a list of book titles. You can click the titles for more info on the book, including a link to buy the book online or find a local library that has it.
