Is it Just Me?

Postby Dustin Stinett » January 19th, 2008, 2:17 pm

One of my favorite haunts on the web is Steve Bryants Little Egypt Magic. Its always filled with great reviews and other bits of news and information.

But

For a while now I have had trouble getting into the site. Ive contacted Steve and he says everything is hunky-peachy on his end. He gave me suggestions, all of which I have tried. Ive even tried going through a few back doors that I know of (Google Cache, etc.) with no luck. I normally use IE7, but Ive even tried FireFox.

Zippo; nada.

So, Im wondering if Im alone in this. Please try the links below and let me know if they work for you. Thanks!

Dustin

Okay, so what do I do? It's the only site I'm having issues with!

Dustin,

I can only think of 2 things, since you have the issue on IE and Firefox.

1. (Most likely) Steve's site is in your HOSTS file. At this point I would remove all entries except: 127.0.0.1 localhost - reboot and try again.

2. There is a possibility of adjusting your MTU, but that is rather obscure.

My money is on the HOSTS file (it's in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

If you're running windows XP, try this:

1. Click Start.
2. Click run.
3. Type: cmd without the quotes. You will be entered into Command Prompt.
4. Type: ipconfig /flushdns without the quotes. Thats all. Exit out of there.
5. Try to access the website. :)

I tried both and had no luck. But then in a no duh moment I checked my laptop: I didnt get it. I had my son try his PC and Mac: both had no luck. It has to be something going on with my ISP, right? Their servers arent playing nice with Steves?

Im going to try from my office on Monday and see what that brings me.

Thanks for all the input!

Dustin

Dustin,

Let's try one more thing. At the least, it will give you info to push your ISP. Open a command window (start - run - cmd on XP)and enter (no quotes)
"tracert www.littleegyptmagic.com"

At least we can see where it dies.

That was trippy. It timed out after one "hop." The location of the one IP number that worked is listed as a "private server" in my IP location search.

Weird-o-rama.
