Capturing files from YouTube

Postby Guest » January 8th, 2007, 12:41 pm

For those of you who prowl the halls of YouTube, this site may be of interest. A nice little program that works nicely with IE 7. After installation, you can right click on thumbnails of YouTube files you want and they're saved automatically. No need to convert them to something else as this site has a link to a FLV player. It is small on the screen, but the sound and picture are clear enough.

You can also use this online free service without installing anything on your computer:

The last one listed is a commercial product and costs $50. The one I listed is free.

Yes, KeepVid.com is free.

After you've downloaded the file from YouTube or DailyMotion ,etc. use the excellent shareware app called iSquint or VisualHub to convert the .flv file to a nice .mp4 file .

You can do more with VisualHub. It's $24.00 , but very much worth it in my opinion.

I've installed it, but each time that I use it to try to save a YouTube stream, Norton Antivirus tells me that a high-risk malicious stream has been detected, and advises me to stop it.

I know nothing about such things. How safe is it?

While I use iSquint now and again, I most heavily realy on PodTube and iTube , as I usually like to save my videos right to iTunes.

Here is a very simple and easy to use FLV player. It is free and available for the PC and the Mac.

Maybe I'm missing something, but are the videos I might download unprotected by copyright and therefore fair game? (Make that un"protected".)

Much of it is protected by copyright, but thus far some copyright holdersfor example Carson Entertainment Groupeither havent done anything about it or they see it as a form marketing that generates interest in their DVDs.

Apparently there was a Ricky Jay video on YouTube for a few minutes before it was yanked, so some folks do enforce their rights and YT responds (quickly it seems).

Let your conscience be your guide.

Does nobody else get that response? Or do you all simply ignore it?
