Penn Jillette's "Director's Cut" makes its debut tonight

Discussions of new films, books, television shows, and media indirectly related to magic and magicians. For example, there may be a book on mnemonics or theatrical technique we should know or at least know about.

Penn Jillette's "Director's Cut" makes its debut tonight

Postby Richard Hatch » January 22nd, 2016, 9:47 pm

Penn Jillette's crowdfunded film "Director's Cut" makes it debut tonight in Park City as the opening feature of the alternative "Slamdance Film Festival". Apparently demand for tickets was so high that a third screening was added to the original two. Here's a link to the crowdfunding campaign. Apparently someone paid $25,000 to get the ponytails of Penn and director Adam Rifkin!

It was shown at the London Frightfest today (Aug 30th).

Negative reviews so far from horror aficionados:

"3/10 - A few hilarious moments... but not worth digging out from the blah."

"Agreed. A one joke movie that stretches its singular conceit out to 90 minutes."

Making a horror movie is a very tricky business. I've watched way too many to admit!

Making a "good" horror movie is incredibly difficult.

Making a "bad" horror movie that is enjoyable--a guilty pleasure--is also incredibly difficult.

Don't begrudge Penn for trying ... he is following a path trodden by hundreds before him, most of whom were unsuccessful.
