Thanks for the heads up on the movie, but I probably won't watch it because there is no way I can relate to or identify with one of the two occupations of the lead character...

...I'm not a street magician.

According to this interview, the director, J. D. Dillard, is a magician and wanted to make magic look "cool", apparently by coupling it with crime:
