wanna see a trick

Discussions of new films, books, television shows, and media indirectly related to magic and magicians. For example, there may be a book on mnemonics or theatrical technique we should know or at least know about.

From the Guardian. An orang-utan enjoys a little magic.

Haha, this is great! If only spectators reacted this way all the time!

Hilarious! Probably the only trick the Orangutan would like better than that vanish would be a production - of a banana, that is (perhaps followed up by the multiplying bananas). Now that would be an aPEELing routine! Pause - - for collective groans.

There are also videos on YouTube with dogs as magic specs. The difference there though is that the dogs seem to be distressed at the disruption of expectation; here the orangutan laughs. What a wonderful lesson in coping mechanisms and the meaning of laughter when confronted by surprise.

I don't believe, short of a controlled trial with multiple orangutans over a period of time with many repetitions, that there is any way to prove that the reaction is related to the "trick" aspect.
