There's much to be said about finding the optimal story that connects a magic trick to an audience in performance. That's ordinarily the goal of discussing presentation here - getting a trick to the audience optimized for our intended effect. Let's consider what happens when the props or the story take center stage away from the magic and the performer by way of example.

A just-so story can mismatch cultural values to create its own effect. The transderivational search (in what world would this be at home? How might we get there?) becomes the journey. Most of the time we'd like to guide the journey. Sometimes the props have their own stories to tell.
