Hey gang.

Thanks John. I'm not a big Houdini guy but I will be watching this, so thanks for the updates.

Re: Photos from Houdini miniseries with Adrien Brody
This is interesting:
"Those escapes—from straitjackets and freezing rivers and Chinese water-torture contraptions—are faithfully recreated in “Houdini” by Brody, Kristen Connolly as his wife, and Evan Jones as his assistant. Along the way, the secrets to his seemingly impossible feats are often revealed to the audience.
“There is an oath not to reveal certain tricks. And I had issues with this,” Brody admits. “But the audience will gain an understanding of how some great illusions worked. You could probably find them online these days. I feel like it’s an interesting facet of the storytelling, but I don’t really like that certain things are revealed because he wouldn’t have wanted to reveal them.”
I wonder if the explanations will be "false" or real.

They are real. I have issues with it too.
Certainly will prompt discussion.

I didn't say if I had any issues or not--just wondering if they're false or real. John: Are they explanations of escapes or magic?

Oh, I meant I was in agreement with Brody who said he had "issues."
Escapes and magic.

Re: Photos from Houdini miniseries with Adrien Brody
No laymen is going to be surprised at an exposure of lock-picking, or some pseudo-explanation of how you get out of a straitjacket (this has been done before) but some folks might get grumpy if they reveal how the Milk Can or Water Torture Cell worked. And if they purport to reveal how The Vanishing Elephant was done, unless Jim Steinmeyer was their consultant (and I don't believe he was involved), they'll be wrong. Not that it matters if they're wrong or right--laymen will accept either.
Anyone going to panic if they expose a botania?

Once upon a time, the purpose of magic was to fool your audience in order to entertain them. Nowadays, the purpose of magic is more about exposure. What a shame...

Re: Photos from Houdini miniseries with Adrien Brody
I saw a "sneak peek" of the miniseries the other day. A few other things I saw bothered me: Houdini doing a bullet catch. Houdini being "saved" from the Upside Down via an axe breaking it so the water runs out. I don't know what these clips mean: the scenes could be dream sequences for all I know. But if not, I will never be able to grasp why Hollywood has to screw with his life story. The real story is a good one.

Re: Photos from Houdini miniseries with Adrien Brody
To be more specific, once upon a time, there was Don Alan's Ranch and Magic Land of Allakazam. Nowadays, there is Breaking The Magician's Code and, from what I am hearing, a Houdini series revealing secrets.
I know. Not all magic shows on TV reveal secrets. But, there was a time when that kind of thing would never happen as far as I know.
Is it that the producers don't think that performing magic is enough to get good ratings? Is nothing scared?
