"Bad Grandpa" Film

Discussions of new films, books, television shows, and media indirectly related to magic and magicians. For example, there may be a book on mnemonics or theatrical technique we should know or at least know about.

"Bad Grandpa" Film

Postby JFox » November 18th, 2013, 1:34 pm

I saw the MTV/Johnny Knoxville film, "Bad Grandpa".

"Grandpa" does a silk vanish for a lady on the street, via a thumb-tip...which is then exposed by his "grandson". The boy yells something like "Hey, its behind (or on) your thumb!", and he grabs for the silk.

But the "expose" is not an "in-your-face" kind of thing. It happens very quickly, and the scene move on.

I purposely asked my lay friend what he thought was going on with the silk vanish & exposure scenes...and he said that he was confused by the whole thing, and that the silk was simply behind his thumb or something.

Moral: Us magicians will agonize over that scene during the entire movie...while laymen have already totally forgotten about it.
