Louie's (DeYip Loo) Stroke Story featured at SSEEO website

Discussions of new films, books, television shows, and media indirectly related to magic and magicians. For example, there may be a book on mnemonics or theatrical technique we should know or at least know about.

A couple of months ago Christine Sumida, SSEEO Project
Coordinator asked if I would like to write a story about my
father's stroke for an upcoming issue for the SSEEO. Its part of
the American Stroke Association and American Heart Association,
and a way to help connect survivors and their caregivers with
each other to help create awareness and educate the public, and
work with state and government legislator on bills for heart and
stroke healthcare.

My family became involved with SSEEO when it first began 6 years
ago. I became great friends with one of the founders, Mickey
Clancy and at one of the conferences with Christine Sumida.
Its a wonderful organization to belong to if you or someone
is a survivor or caregiver.

Back in January I recieved an email from Christine about writing
the story. I have never much been for taking the time to write
the story down because there is so much to write. Unlike the
feature in Stroke Connection three years ago, this was something
more from a first person/personal experience.

I was asked to write a piece for Caregiver Magazine two years
ago and hesitated greatly. But I decided to take the bull by the
horns so to speak, and tackle it. In many ways I wanted to write
it as a tribute to my mother. Which didn't come easy as I
expected.

But in many ways it felt amazing.

Its a long piece and I talked about all the things we did with my father to get him where he is at.

If you already are a SSEEO member, you should receive the
newsletter in the mail and it will link you the rest of
the story on the website.

Which has a couple of extra photos Including a family photo taken
in 2008, one in 1981 and a wedding photo.

I hope you enjoy the story and photos.

You can find the story on the front page of the website at:
