Just wondering if anyone caught this show last night.
It featured Mel Brooks (best friend of magic's own Harry Lorayne),
Dave Brubeck, Grace Bumbry, Robert Deniro and Bruce Springsteen.
(It was very funny hearing a bunch of actors, singers and politicians dressed in suits and gowns shouting "Bruce!")
Since there're no true variety shows anymore, this to me, is one of the few worthwhile shows on TV. It's always funny, entertaining and inspiring.

I liked it too. I didn't hear them mention the connection between De Niro and Springsteen.

In his memoir "Big Man" (2009), saxophonist Clarence Clemons said that De Niro told him (when he coached De Niro to play the saxophone for the movie "New York, New York") that he had seen Bruce Springsteen say the line "You talkin' to me?" onstage at a concert as fans were screaming his name. De Niro decided to use the line in the film "Taxi Driver"!

I saw it last night and it looked pretty weak. Too many honoree's and not enough real stars. After Meryl and Deniro, it was downhill from there.

James Taylor had a special on PBS that was more entertaining.

I liked the De Niro and Brooks segments. I couldn't stand listening to Springsteen's music covered as poorly as it was. That was downright painful. I think Brubeck was honestly surprised to see his sons there playing; that was a nice moment.
