The Great Buck Howard

Discussions of new films, books, television shows, and media indirectly related to magic and magicians. For example, there may be a book on mnemonics or theatrical technique we should know or at least know about.

The Great Buck Howard

Postby JKeppel » December 15th, 2008, 5:03 pm

Applemovietrailers.com has just posted the trailer for "The Great Buck Howard" in which John Malkovich portrays a mentalist. Rickey Jay is also in the movie and as you'll see in the trailer David Blaine has a cameo. It sure looks like he is portraying Kreskin with that handshake.

I saw this at Cinevegas back around Aug/Sept. I liked it. Malkovitch does a spot-on impersonation of Kreskin.

This month's MAGIC features an interview with the writer/director of the film, Sean McGinly. It's quite good. Check it out.

The character is definitely based on Kreskin, and he's doing promotion for the film. I believe he worked with Malkovitch.

If you have the HDNET move channel, they are showing the film on the 18th, before it opens in theaters. I get the channel on Dish Network. I don't know if it is on cable or not, but it should be.

About 10 years ago, McGinly briefly worked for Kreskin as his road manager. How's that for an insider's view?

(I just tried this link and all I got was a blank screen indicating "Done". This ALWAYS happens....any idea why? I'm using Firefox....)

Thanks..

I saw most of the movie last night. Enjoyed it -- it'll definitely go on the Netflix list.

It received a poor review in this week's New Yorker.

Doesn't matter. Any film with Malkovich, Ricky Jay, and Jon Stewart in it is on my Must See list right out of the gate. I can hardly wait.

Time Warner Cable has it on it's "On Demand" service here in DFW. I watched it a few days ago. Really solid acting by everyone in the movie.

I thought the plot was a little slow paced, but good. Good flick.
