Allan Slaight Article, U.S. or Candian Dollars
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the article on Allan Slaight. He's had a fascinating life. I was curious whether the dollar amounts indicated were U.S. or Canadian dollars? In any case he's been very successful both as a magician and businessman.

Re: Allan Slaight Article, U.S. or Candian Dollars
A Canadian dollar is worth $2.78 U.S., so take the numbers in the article and multiply about 3 times for Allan Slaight's actual worth.
Incidentally, using the Miraskil principle mentioned in the article, Allan has as much money as me, $12,000,000 more, and enough left over to make one billion dollars -- (all previously predicted in sealed envelope).

According to the Royal Bank, to get one American Dollar you have to spend $1.14 Canadian. (That is of today.)
Bob, you had me laughing but good on that one. Well done sir.

For you non-Canadian readers, Gord's reference to the "Royal" Bank is the bank owned by Canada's royal family, headed by King Jean Poutine.

Re: Allan Slaight Article, U.S. or Candian Dollars
David, my apologies for the mistake. As you may know, I was strongly opposed to the reign of King Poutine the First and after his tragic death at the hands of the Eskimo guerillas, I did not support the instalment of his idiot son as King (so maybe I was just obsessed with that first clown and made a mental error).
I believe that Canada does not need a royal family. We should follow the example of the U.S. and become a democracy. I for one am fed up with all the bowing and scrapping and sending 60% of all my wheat and the other stuff I grow to the castle in Montreal.
If only Canada had a university we might have some educated people who could become politicians and start a parliament. Where is Oliver Cromwell when you need him?

I was happy when the King finally approved the budget to build a dome over the national igloo, to protect it from global warming.

Where is this 'Canada' place you're all talking about? Near New Jersey?

Yes, if you look on a map, "Canada" is right between Rhode Island and New Jersey on the north side. It is shaped like a sort upside down Texas, with the panhandle at the top and the pan at the bottom. The parts thta look like bacon are the Rocky Mountains.

Oh please: Its right here in California. Its just east of LA. In fact, the freeway to it is called the LA CANADA freeway. Check the map here (you will need to zoom in one click). Its right between LA and FLINTRIDGE.

I'm almost scared to point this out, but the U.S. is a republic...but that 'fed up with the 60% stuff'? We're dancing in the same barn on that one. Go Bob!Originally posted by Bob Farmer:

Since I just happen to live in LA CANADA, I thought I should mention that I am sick and tired of the amount of polish draft dodgers living in this community.Originally posted by DustinStinett:

When Allan Slaight writes a check, the bank bounces.

If Canada is in Los Angeles then why is Canada College just South of San Francisco?

Just flew in from Canada and went to some shows at the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Beautiful place. But Geez... sales tax is 14% (altho as a Gringo can get a refund at the border).
Stay tooned.

Re: Allan Slaight Article, U.S. or Candian Dollars
Pete, I'm sorry to hear you fell for the old 14% sales tax scam. There is no sales tax in Canada, but unscrupulous merchants have been ripping off tourists for years on this thing.
Canadian merchants easily recognize an American accent and once you're tagged, it's open season on your wallet. You can bet as soon as you walked away 14% lighter, they laughed their collective asses off.
Next time you're here, get one of those little Canadian flag pins. As soon as they try the sales tax scam, flash the pin under your lapel and say, "God save the Queen" (especially in Quebec) -- and you'll get the "Canadian discount."

Re: Allan Slaight Article, U.S. or Candian Dollars
This is Mr. Farmer's psychotherapist posting. I'm using Mr. Farmer's login in his place because he is in no condition to say anything at this point.
Everything Mr. Farmer has said about Canada here is wrong. Mr. Farmer wouldn't know -- he doesn't even live in Canada (his home is here at the Swiss Institute). He's not a Canadian and has never been to Canada. In fact, his real name is Eric Von Pelletier and he has been confined here to cure his delusion that he is Frank Zappa.
He obsessively posts misinformation and lies on many different internet sites. We have taken his computer away and given him a really big shot of Tranquilaposdiazapam and he won;t bother you again.

Actually, he has for almost two months. Back then it was a topical joke. By posting now, you have brought this back into the spotlight. So I think that it is you who needs to let it go.
