Prophecy Move "Subtlety"

A place where beginners can participate, ask questions, and post their views. However, beginners typically ask a lot of questions about sources, tricks, books, and so on. In fact, all magicians are interested (or should be) in the provenance of tricks, ideas, and related matters. This department will service these needs.

Prophecy Move "Subtlety"

Postby JHostler » July 1st, 2023, 8:47 am

So... under certain conditions, when executing the "Business Card Prophecy" move with a selected card, I find it advantageous to carry the reversed card - still outjogged on the original top portion of the pack/et - forward to confirm and/or cement the selection. ["This one?" or "Are you sure?"] The pack/et is reassembled after pausing for confirmation (or the preceding moves are simply reversed on rare occasions of a change in mind).

It's not much of anything, but does serve to break the move in half and provide some physical logic for the displacement.

I'm sure this tweak has seen print many times, and hope someone can point me in the direction of any early reference for crediting purposes.

Many thanks,

John

Thanks, Philippe. Denis's place is typically my first stop for this sort of thing. Unfortunately, it's proving difficult to nail down the origins of this variation (if it even qualifies as a variation) based on the understandably concise descriptions provided... and my far-from-Mavenesque library lacks many of the referenced sources.

I have the same problem!

Unfortunately, I can't buy all the books and magazines.

I bet on luck and sometimes it works...

john, that's the way i've been doing it for decades. i've always used it in ackerman's quick coincidence and just assumed that's how he taught the move. it was so long ago. i never thought of it as different. don england did it that way as well. i would probably lean toward it not qualifying as a variation.

I figured as much, but you never know with the Credit Police. Minor variations in finger placement etc... ayyayyyayyy!
