Histed pompom built into a Hoodie

A place where beginners can participate, ask questions, and post their views. However, beginners typically ask a lot of questions about sources, tricks, books, and so on. In fact, all magicians are interested (or should be) in the provenance of tricks, ideas, and related matters. This department will service these needs.

Histed pompom built into a Hoodie

Postby Jonathan Townsend » January 13th, 2016, 7:13 pm

Hi folks,

What is the provenance of the pompom item after Histed? I'm about to take my hoodie to an alterations specialist to build in the Histed pompom type connection to the hood string(s) to apparently have three string ends. Maybe all four if that's simpler for her. Someone mentioned that there's a rope routine using this idea. Other than the envelope/string item in book from a while ago is there more work on this notion in the ropes/strings market?

Thanks in advance,

JonT

Quick update - someone mentioned a Geoff Buckingham routine that involves a rope with three ends. Is that related to the Histed pompom item in that there's a loop one one end of a rope and another length threaded through?

If you mean provenance before Histed, I guess it would be this:

Geoffrey Buckingham's Four-Ended Rope is in "It's Easier Than You Think Vol. 3" and also here:

More recently (after Histed) Francis Tabary did a lot of interesting stuff with ropes that might be related.

and before tabary there was sands. Sands had the bit where the ends jumped from one hand to another. The prof cheers routine employs ropes looped around others and, though not highlighted, multiple ends appearing.

and then there was the 2 to 1 rope dealer item (or was it 3 to 1).

and of course isn't the pon Pom pole really not just a variation of the Chinese sticks?

was thinking about the hoodie idea this morning. Is there a Pom pon on top of the cap? or what about those sock top type hats with the ear flaps that come down to dangly Pom pons? I like the idea of a pull on a seemingly seperate piece of clothing instigating the action on another. Creates a sense of seperation that is missing within a self contain one piece item of clothing.

using the sock top and jacket draw string you can do Standard Pom pon stuff with those four ends and conclude by pulling the pon Pom on top of the hat to bring all four back to the short position.

Is the magnetic separable feature part of the Histed item?

If this works out and I wear it around - maybe call it a Histed Hoodie (have to ask his folks/estate).

Looking backwards it does seem like an extension of the "Chinese Sticks" where you lose the sealed ends (...okay you can cap them after separation in the Pom Pon stick version)

@Brad, For a jacket/hat thing ... agreed that'd be fun. I'm thinking paracord for that. The tricked out winter jacket with all those pull strings (Maybe need a parody North Face logo if going into production) 8-)

For the immediate future it's just having one or two extra strings on the hoodie to build in some fun. As in off to the alterations specialist this Saturday to get magnets set to keep the real drawstrings out of my way and then rivets and a tunnel and...

Looking from the outside after the "aha" - essentially there's a rope act built into a hoodie. Pulling the knots from the ends, pulling the cord free... Professor Cheers etc. I'll get there as I can. To the rest in this tiny market leave it be for now at least till I get the basic credits and mechanics set and tested.

I was very fortunate for the time spent at the magic shop watching many items performed. It's been a long time since and somehow it was just the right place and time to see folks demonstrating finely crafted wonders.
