OOTW history/credit

A place where beginners can participate, ask questions, and post their views. However, beginners typically ask a lot of questions about sources, tricks, books, and so on. In fact, all magicians are interested (or should be) in the provenance of tricks, ideas, and related matters. This department will service these needs.

OOTW history/credit

Postby Jonathan Townsend » March 23rd, 2015, 3:03 pm

Good afternoon - beginner level question:

Is there some history on doing Out Of This World using a mixed packet of red backed cards and blue backed cards? IE showing the volunteer the faces of the cards and letting them chose whether the cards are blue backed, red backed or mixed?

Thanks in advance,

I don't know, but I can offer history of the "opposite" effect -- the spectator chooses the faces, yet gets the color of the backs wrong. Perhaps that interests you. See No Two Ways, by Ron Edwards, March 1958 Ibidem. More here:

You need look (or read) no further than Mr. Curry himself, in his 1975 chart-topping "Out Of This World - And Beyond."

On page 16 of this MUST READ book he describes and details just such an effect and more than one method for a face-up OOTW with the Red and Blue Backed resolution you describe.
