Shuffle Tracking

Back in Sept. of 2000, Persi Diaconis did a lecture for the Hewlett-Packard Science Lecture Series in Bristol. Fortunately the lecture was recorded and is available for free from the HP website upon request in DVD format by contacting the webmaster.

My question is: What is the name of the false shuffle and cut he uses prior to tossing the deck out to the crowd? Is this the one that can be found in the Vernon Chronicles?
