What is the best source(s) for learning about hold outs?

I would start with historical information. For example "Sharps and Flats" has some nice info on hold-outs. Available as ebook, reprint or second hand.

What kind of hold outs? Gambling? Kepplinger style, squeezer, bean shooter?

Or magicians, ala Jack Miller et al?

First, thank you for the suggestion. I will try and locate it.
Second, wow! What great terms! Since I know so little about hold outs, it makes me that much more interested to learn.
I have two reasons for wanting to learn;
1.) An organization I belong to runs a 'casino' nite fund raiser. I thought it would be neat to do a Riverboat Gambler demonstration for the patrons as they sit around.
2.) I am auditioning for the part of Applegate in Damn Yankees later this year. I was curious to see if I could use a hold out to produce a lit cigarette (as the character must do a few times during the production).

I thank you for taking the time to answer my query. And for the little bump to do more research.

This is interesting. The latest Stevens Magic catalog is selling an item for $55 called "Invisible Hand with book". It looks like a Miller-style weight holdout with attachments.

It is Robert. It is Michel and Greco Vernet's version of the Miller holdout. It is simply a streamlined version of the original Miller. With a couple ends to grasp different objects.

I'll toss into the mix the excellent John Carney book on his work with adapting the Miller holdout. Typical of John's genius.
