Reds and Blacks

Greetings Fellows -

I am collecting tricks that utilize a prearranged pack of cards set-up in a simple red/black pattern so as to secretly indicate selections to the performer. Contributions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

There's a good one in the Paul Le Paul card magic book if that is any use to you.

There's a Juan Tamariz trick that might fit your bill. Like Mark, whom I emulate in every way, I won't tell you which one. But going through all of Juan's published material will be a much better use of your time than reading the Genii Forum anyway.

There is only one trick of this nature in the Paul Le Paul book and it is a very good one. It shouldn't be hard to find. If I knew the title I would give. But I don't so I won't.

I now know the title of said trick. It is called Colour Segregation. Notice the superior British way of spelling "colour"

Hi mindfreek,

Might be worth looking at "psychic sorting" in the classic Corinda's 13 steps to mentalism. On page 45 there is an effect where cards are sorted into black and red using a "ghost deck".

How very odd that nobody has mentioned "Out of this World" which is the best one of the lot. I suppose the mindfreek gentleman has already considered this one.

And of course I know the best way of setting up the deck for this. It is the George Blake method. I have mentioned this previously. And I am STILL not going to tell you the method. Serves you all right.

Mark,

Does the George Blake method start from an alternating stack? Not that this would invalidate the method, just I thought that was the challenge.

The Tamariz trick does leave you set up for Out of this World.

Mc'Cabe. You have been very rude to me in the past and now you come grovelling for information. Alas I am not inclined to give it. I will however say that it is nothing to do with an alternating stack.

You could ask George Blake but he is somewhat dead at the moment and you don't have my powers of psychic communication to those who are departed. I don't think George would like you anyway.

Don't worry though. No doubt some knowledge box here will reveal the method. It is not well known at all. I could have sworn that there was a three line description of it in the Al Koran book published by Martin Breese but I have found no trace of it. I wonder if I imagined it.

I shall give a major clue. You TELL them you are setting up the deck!

The method is pretty obvious now. If you can't figure it out from what I just said you don't deserve to know it anyway.

Shouldn't that be "Foreword written by Max Maven"? Stop the presses!

Looking forward to the book regardless...

That book is all very well but I bet it doesn't have the best method of the lot. The George Blake method. And despite my prediction of some box of knowledge explaining it on here nobody seems to know it.

You might want to check out Larry Jenning's effect "Red/Black Shuffle Revelation" from Jennings's 67 page 113. An excellent effect.
