Hi everybody.
I've been interested in Maurice Fogel for some time and have just discovered that I'm living around the corner from one of his earliest performing places!
Anybody out there got any interesting stories or anything else about him and his work?
Before I get swamped with 'Second Spot' and 'Bewitched, Bottled & Bewildered' descriptions ... I've got (and use) both of them but would be interested to hear of any slants he may have used with them that aren't in the original instructions.
Mail me direct if you don't want to post on the forum.
Thanks in advance.
Barry

"Fogel Gives Himself Away" was the set of lecture notes he put together for the S.A.M. convention in New York in 1978.
Re: Fogel
I have one Fogel story. We were chatting about varous items and he said, "If you have to carry an 8-foot square sheet of glass to do a great trick, carry an 8-foot sheet of glass."

Mr. Maven, Thank You!
Mr. Biro, your story reminds me a chinese proverb : (translated from French)
"When you are in front of the Chinese Wall you see the Chinese Wall"
:)

Re: Fogel
A memorable anecdote relating to Maurice Fogel was included in the book "Paul Daniels and the Story of Magic" [published in 1987].
Apparently, Maurice Fogel began his performing career as 'The Magical Impressionist' before turning to mentalism.

Another wonderful article about Maurice Fogel was published in the December 1999 issue of "Genii". The article, 'Fly Me To The Moon', was written by Nadine Woodward, Maurice Fogel's daughter.

Re: Fogel
Christopher Woodward, Fogel's son in law, published a biographical monograph on Fogel in 2001. We still have a few copies at H & R Magic www.magicbookshop.com
Do a search on "Fogel" and it will show up. It includes a bibliography of his published works. I understand Woodward and Richard Mark (who also published a Fogel monograph some years ago) are working on a book about Fogel.
