Pegasus Page?

I'm interested in an older effect called "The Pegasus Page" by Arthur Emerson. I have no idea where this was published...as a separate item? In a book? Etc.

Any leads would be appreciated.

Jeff

It's in Swami, Issue 13 (January 1973), or on page 51 of Richard's book. Also excellent along these lines is Bill Goldman's "Like a Bird on a Wire" in his Magic Bar & Grill issue 7 and Docc Hilford's "Brother of All Book Tests" (which I believe he now calls something else).

It's also in one of the series of Emerson Lecture notes titled" Evening at the Magic Circle" I no longer own the notes so I can't say which number of the series contained this excellent effect.

Best thoughts,
John Smetana

Docc Hilford's version is called "The Wizard's Manual," and is available commercially. I was thinking just yesterday about the similarities between this trick and "Whim of Tituba" in Anneman's Practical Mental Effects, although the latter is a bizarre trick focusing on communion with the afterlife.

Art sold these himself in the 1970's....it is easy to make up yourself....just use a clean razor to make nice "short" pages in popular paperbacks.
I occasionally still use the effect in a show....plays fine.

Is it proper to make your own Pegasus Page books?

I guess it is, since the original was published in 1973 in Swami, right? Only later did it become a marketed item, which it would be improper to make up yourself....

If you know how to make it, then there's no reason not to make it and use it!
The only problem would be if you wanted to make them and SELL them.
