Your group's acronym "PEA" is close enough to the other "PEA" (in fact, they are the same) that this might cause confusion . . .

I hear that IBM has the same problems... Since the term PEA is not what we go by at the Paranormal Entertainers Association, it does not concern me/us. Also the term PEA is not trademarked so the other group has no problems with the Professional Employees Association, or Peanet Communications...

Note it's the "Paranormal Entertainers Group"... No confusion needed between the two different outfits...

Well, I don't know the legal side of things here; and I am a member of neither PEA.
But a couple of things strike me. The battle last year between Apple and Apple raised the profile of this type of problem; with the common sense view being, broadly, it was fine if the two Apples were in completely different fields - computers v music - the problem came when their fields came so close, there was potential for confusion (Apple ipod).
Thats why IBM and IBM sit happily together - no possibility for confusion.
Whereas here there is plenty of possibility of confusion.

And I find it hard to understand why a new outfit would want to generate confusion with a well established existing organisation. Why wouldn't they want to distinguish themselves as being unique?

Legal - schmegal! It's a bad idea for this reason: people who liked the old PEA are going to resent you for taking over "their" initials, and people who disliked the old PEA are going to mistakenly pass that dislike along to your new group.

It's a NEW group. Be creative enough to come up with a new name and a new acronym.

Nice acronyms up for grabs (I think... what do I know?):

PSYCH

WEIRD

ESP

MESMER

MENTA ... no too much like a breath candy

THINK

THOT

Find a nice acronym that is unique and then brainstorm for a title that makes use of it. However, avoid the name "Psychics Union."

If you want people to take your group seriously, a good start might be having a website that doesn't look like it was created circa 1995.

Some specific, albeit unsolicited, feedback:

Riley, your web page has a big typo on the front page. I think you mean "walked away" not "walked way".

On the PEG page, I'd hide the visit counter. Not only is it very 1995, it is a piece of trivia that doesn't deserve such prominent placement. And with its current count, less than 400, it's not impressive either.

Good luck with your venture.

That's 400 this week/last 5 days...
