Best place to buy OOP Magic Books
Hi Guys,
After a while searching the net for OOP Card magic books i thought i would run it past you all and ask where is the best place to track down rare magic books? I know eBay is a good place to start but just wondered if you have any suggestions?
Many thanks!

At this very moment, Haversat and Ewing are holding an auction with many quality magic books.

Re: Best place to buy OOP Magic Books
Potter & Potter auctions don't happen often, but you can use their buy-it-now listings here: https://www.quickerthantheeye.com/
They don't have large quantities of books but check Ron Allesi's Internation Magic Auction: http://www.internationalmagicauction.co ... tion=index
Amazon of course has many, but I find the prices to be rather high though good bargains occasionally show up.

Re: Best place to buy OOP Magic Books
H&R Magic Books has a lot of books.
I don't buy many "high end" books, but the ones I get tend to come from either ebay, H&E auctions, P&P auctions, or just paying attention to people who list on here and the Cafe. I recently got a copy of the Berg book at what I thought was a good price, and earlier this year I found a 2nd edition Edwin Sachs (which has the most attractive cover, I think). Both were on ebay.

I think H & R is where I typically start, but if you really need a hard to find book, I would suggest tryiing:
Andy Greget: 480-284-4363 He's in Arizona and doesn't do email.
Byron Walker byron.walker@comcast.net
Denny Haney dennymagic.com (Has some one of a kind stuff)
Magic Inc www.magicinc.net (It's amazing what they can find hiding in the back)

Re: Best place to buy OOP Magic Books
In the UK there are four main used magic dealers. One of them, Peter Diamond does not have a website and deals mainly in used magic.
The others deal in both used magic and books
http://www.taurusmagic.net
http://castlemagicalservices.co.uk (soon to have new owners)
http://www.secondhandmagic.com
Magic Books by Post in the UK (only new books) is now under new ownership and will be restarting the website and have many older titles in stock including many from the Supreme range.

Thank you erdnasephile for those links! I actually bought a hard to find Karl falves manuscript from Denny the other day. I'm interested in Andy Greget as I live in Phoenix. Might give him a call. Thanks once again

Re: Best place to buy OOP Magic Books
Andy has a ton of stuff--mostly books, but also some interesting props.
His full contact information is:
John "Andy" Greget's Magic Lists
3380 W Morgan Ln
Queen Creek AZ 85142-3119
Tel: 480-284-4363
FAX: 480-284-4182
The one place I've never had much luck in finding worthwhile magic books has been in thrift shops. The closest I've gotten was a copy of "Marlo without Tears" for around $15 and Steve Forte's "Casino Game Protection" for $40 (albeit in poor shape).

I am with you regarding thrift shops, i have never had any luck. I am actually looking for a copy of Steve Fortes Casino Game Protection but not sure if im willing to pay the $455 asking price on eBay although it is a signed copy.

For 25 years I've had good luck and prompt, great service from Byron Walker.
His contact information can be found on his website.

It gives you an idea of a small amount of what is available. Email him about specific titles.

Not the one who created the Potter Index.

Here's a nice book. Too rich for my blood, though.

Re: Best place to buy OOP Magic Books
I sell Antique books for a living but never dealt in magic books. I have been out of the loop for many years. I got into magic at the age of 12 and my first proper magic book was Cardshark. When i got into my twenties i lost the desire to practice and other things got in the way as i am sure has happened to many of us. I sold all my books many years ago and now at the age of 37 i have caught the bug again and really want to build my library up. As with antiquarian books, magic books are listed on Amazon and Abebooks for unrealistic price's. I remember when Cardshark was a rare book and very hard to find but with the likes of eBay "Rare" books are somewhat easier to find and thus the values drop somewhat.

Re: Best place to buy OOP Magic Books
I have recently purchased all remaining stock of H&R Magic Books, and have 3000+ titles, 2/3 Used and 1/3 new. Also purchased all remaining stock of magic DVDs.
If you are looking for particular titles, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Email: donbursell@gmail.com
I do not have the titles inventoried yet, but most are shelved, and I would be happy to search my library for whatever titles you are interested in.
I also have many props listed at http://www.usedmagic.myshopify.com
Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you.
Sincerely,
Don Bursell
