Unfamiliar Erdnase edition

Postby Rick Barnes » July 26th, 2015, 10:58 pm

While no means an expert, I am an Erdnase fan, and am familiar with most Erdnase editions. However, I have found an edition by Drake that I have never seen referenced. It was apparently issued with (at least) two matching editions... "How to Tell Fortunes by Cards", and "The Book of Card Tricks". These three matching editions have pale green covers, and are slightly smaller than the common Drake paperbacks, measuring 6.5x4.25". This TEATCT has no pips, with 178 pages, with a back cover advertising the Frederick J. Drake & Co.
These particular editions are rubber-stamped "Oct 6 1929" in several places throughout the books.
Is this a common edition, or am I retiring early? Thanks for any info you can provide.
Rick
An aside... the "Book of Card Tricks" has several passages marked with a checkmark, and other passages marked with a "C", presumably by the original owner... sound familiar to anybody?
Thanks again.
R

They're actually quite common, but the "October, 1929" part of yours is interesting to say the least.

Rick -- it would be interesting to see a photo or scan that shows all three books together, so the similarities are obvious. I know that Drake printed other hardback books that are similar in design to their pictoral hardback edition of Erdnase.

And if you aren't able to host one and link it, you can send it to me and I'll upload it.

Thanks Bill,
I can send some photos from my phone, but I am an old guy, and don't know anything about "hosting" and "linking" lol. However, for the record, the three editions are paperbacks, like the other Drake paperback editions. I will say, the link that Jason posted appears to be the standard Drake paperback (sans pips), which I have previously owned. These books look like slightly smaller, greener, facsimiles. I'd love to send you some photos. It may not be proper (or smart), but my cell number is 423-620-0884. Forgive my ignorance, but how do I get the photos to you?
Thanks for your interest,
Rick

I think you'll find that the picture that Jason linked to is just a very faded green cover.

It shows as green when you look at that specific picture alongside a picture of a white cover.
It also shows as green if you look closely near the edges, where the green and white meet ... and the difference can be seen.

I just sent you a text re: photos. You can text them back to me and I'll post them here.

Do you live in Chattanooga? I have family in Whitwell and Ooltewah. I came to the Nate Kranzo lecture there last summer (we are hosting him here in Huntsville in a couple of weeks).

Hi Bill,
I have sent pictures to your email... evidently the photo files were too big for my phone (?). Thanks again for any more info.

PS I am in north-east Tennessee... Greeneville (about 3 hrs from Chat.)

Hmm. When I uploaded them last night, I was able to view them from home. Not so, now here at work.

I can't access file and photo hosting sites from work, so I'll try again from home tonight.

There is one on eBay now that looks just like this one. Search eBay.
