How could I be so wrong about David Parr’s BRAIN FOOD?

Postby JustCards » May 31st, 2015, 3:10 pm

I really like the book. I jumped at the chance to obtain a new, shrink-wrapped edition of this out-of-print gem.

This new edition remains unsold on eBay with 2 days left, so I just dropped the price.

Below are links to some online reviews of Brain Food. A review can also be found in “Jamy Ian Swiss Book Reviews.” Although I personally have not read Jamy’s review, I’m pretty sure this is the type of book he’d support.

Jamy's review is in the Aug 1998 Genii. He greatly liked a couple of pieces, but wasn't too complimentary of the writing style.

That surprises me.

Michael Close reviewed Brain Food in MAGIC Magazine (August 1998) and gave high marks to both the routines and the essays.

Close said Parr wrote "clearly and intelligently."

Of the effects, Close cited Parr's handling of the Mullica Wallet, "Grant's Slow Motion Bill Transposition" and Lippincott box as the book's highlights.

Swiss liked those effects as well. I've sent you the review.

That two well-respected reviewers would have differing opinions about writing style is par for the course, I suppose. They are opinions, not measurements.
