Wasn't Kaplan accused of ripping-off Vernon and used the material in the book?

Actually, he was accused of printing Sam Horowitz's material without permission, but I believe this has been disproved.

From "The Vernon Touch" column, Genii 7/71 (reprinted in Genii 6/2006):
"Many years ago one of Sam's [Horowitz] pupils was a chap named George Kaplan. Years later the book The Fine Art of Magic was published. I was flabbergasted upon reading it to see that Sam's name was not mentioned, yet nearly all the material in the book had been culled from Sam, Al Baker, and myself. I'd say that 80% of the magic should have been credited to Sam Horowitz ... or at least that the variations or 'improved versions' of the tricks had been inspired by him."
In Sept 1971, Genii published a letter from Kaplan in which he denied Vernon's charges, and said that Horowitz had said that two or three items should been credited to him, but that they had talked about it and were okay with each other.
In the March 1972 Vernon Touch column, Vernon addresses Kaplan's letter, but it seems like he misread it -- when he paraphrases Kaplan, he gets it wrong.

I recall, I think, that Andy Greget has a bunch of letters pertaining to this matter.
