Year 1918 and 1919 Sphinx magazines

Postby Chuck Arkin » February 19th, 2013, 10:50 pm

I have a set of twelve (12) mostly complete, some missing pages "The Sphinx" magazines with dates ranging from March 15, 1918 to February 15, 1919.

Any guestimate on values?

Finally, the "The Sphinx" magazine dated February 15, 1919, is complete, in good condition, and features Hewitt Magnus on the cover page.

Any idea what any of these, individually or as a group, would have as value to a collector?

Pardon me, this is the first time I've posted such a collectible on this Forum. The rules state I must quote a price. Okay, asking price is US $1,000.00 for the entire collection.

Okay. I will sell some of these to the highest bidder(s) at the Cincinnati Magic Auction on April 27th. Perhaps I'll start with the May 15, 1918 cover page and put it in a nice frame, selling the combination.

Regarding the 1918 cover page of the Sphinx magazine that will be at the auction, is it preferred (from collector's perspective) that the paper be loose (such as in a sleeve protector or picture frame), or should I laminate it? Thoughts, please...

Seems-like a lot of work for $3.00 magazines. IMHO.

Never laminate anything; it lowers the value to collectors.

Thanks, Dustin. I will bring them to the April 27th (Cincinnati Ring 71) auction enclosed in plastic sheet protectors, rather than laminated or framed. That will also allow for easier onsite examination the day of the auction. Appreciate your comments and suggestions.
