Wanted: Legendary Repertoire of Michael Skinner, vol. 1&2

Postby Richard Green » March 3rd, 2012, 2:27 pm

I've looked everywhere for this, and no stores seem to have them available. It appears that they are only on VHS, however I'm willing to take that; it's what's on them that's most important.

If you have these available at a reasonable price, please send me a message or e-mail me at rickgreen1022@gmail.com.

I asked Geno Munari years ago if these were coming out on dvd soon, and he said they were...

Must have been put on the back burner for some reason.

Sent an e-mail, Gary. Thanks for pointing that one out, just hoping they have them. I'd ordered them once from somewhone else, but they didn't have them like their the website showed.

Well, just got an e-mail back; not available at Magic Apple. Same thing as the other store...they advertise it, but not available.

Thanks for pointing that out! Even though I have the 4 volume A1 set already, that's DEFINITELY a great deal.

Due in no small part to Brian Hebert's suggestion, I now have that set on the way to me. Thanks, Brian!

Richard K.,
I re-read the 2000 issue of Genii with the Skinner tribute, and after having seen Michael's work on all of the videos now, I'm astounded at just how good he was in his prime. I understand now what everyone meant.

Richard, the videos were shot long after his prime. I have earlier, private videos and he was incredibly good. One of the best.

So, he was even better before 1983? Wow...now I AM impressed even more.

I seem to remember a great clip of Michael Skinner in 1974 on the tonight show, performing the card in wallet, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Knowing he was 26 or 27 at the time makes it all that much better. His attitude makes him come off as someone a bit older. He was on the tonight show twice but I don't know what he performed on his other appearance. He also might have done more magic on the segment he did the card in wallet.

Does anyone know if he had planned on putting out more books?

I seem to recall reading that he'd planned on putting out a pretty decent sized volume, but that never came to pass. The L&L book and the little slim piece from Busby are the only things I've seen available outside the material from Almanac and other publications.

If Jeff has a great price, I'd recommend snatching these up; they're priceless.

I agree, ernasephile - a large Skinner volume would be fantastic. However, after watching these videos over and over, it's amazing at how much of his main performing repertoire was straight out of the classics. It was his ability to create entertaining presentations that I love.

I just received a wonderful gift from a friend: a DVD with Michael's two appearances on The Tonight Show!

Richard, after watching those, I completely understood what you meant about seeing Michael in his hey-day...beautiful stuff.

Well, crap...thought I'd found a lot; now you've REALLY got my curiosity up, Richard!

If anyone can help with this, I'd greatly appreciate it. (Starting to feel like I need Nicholas Cage from "National Treasure" to help!)

Richard
