Vernon and Stewart James Videos for sale

Postby Gary » July 6th, 2003, 12:58 am

I bought these from History Television in Canada. These are two parts of The Canadians..Biographies of a Nation series. They cost me $29 each plus postage. I will sell both for $35 plus $4 postage.

First one to leave a message gets them.

I don't think the Stewart James was ever available through magic shops.

Marty,

"The Life and Strange Genius of Stewart James" is a biographical documentary, not a performance video (I enjoyed every minute nonetheless). He doesn't perform much in the video. Actually, they're not even complete performances. Just a couple of brief snippets during interviews and voiceovers. It figures, since Stewart said in a 1991 interview:

Im not interested in performing. Im interested in developing something. I feel something like a playwright - writing material for actors.

It's a wonderfully bittersweet overview of his personal life and prodigious creative output - sad, yet awe inspiring. The sacrifices he made for his possessive mother and obsessive imagination were far more than many of us would be willing to make.

Guest performers include:

Steve Beam
Mark Mitton
David Ben (performing "Further than that" and a handling of "51 Faces North")

Persons interviewed:

Stewart James
Allan Slaight
Pat Lyons
Linda Kent (Stewart James' niece)
Millicent Boo Luscombe (Stewart's former assistant)
Grace MacDonald (Stewart's ex-fiance and assistant)
Max Maven
David Ben
Michael Weber

The video is available through ViewerPlus:

When you get there, look under the "quick links" section on the right side of the page, then scroll down and click on "The Canadians" link.
