New York's lost rooftop theaters

Postby John Tudor » March 26th, 2017, 10:37 am

Not magic, but this is a nicely illustrated story about New York's lost rooftop theaters: Stunning vintage images reveal a glamorous and thrilling 19th-century world of palm trees and acrobats
Inspired by the urban gardens of Europe, New York embraced the trend for rooftop theaters from 1890
Locals would flock to the terraces to escape the summer heat, sip champagne and watch a performance
Alfresco operas, dance performances and variety shows were popular until the trend dwindled in the 1930s
