Oldest full deck of cards

Postby P.T.Widdle » January 26th, 2015, 12:16 pm

Not sure if this has appeared on the forum before. Reddit today claims these are the oldest full deck of 52 cards in known existence:

By coincidence, I just had a look at them last week, as I live very close to the Cloisters in upper Manhattan.

They're all one-way faces.

It's one of those Heirloom decks from Card-Shark. The curator of the museum hasn't realized it yet.

Looks, they are all corner short.
Now you gotta "square" these up ;-)

CardMaker, I see you're selling David Solomon's Cigarette through Card on your website. Have you licensed the rights from him?

I visited the Cloisters museum on a trip to NYC a year and a half ago. It's as close to visiting a medieval monastery as we can get on this side of the Atlantic. I didn't know about the playing cards and don't recall seeing them, but the Cloisters was a highlight of the trip. Recommended!

Richard,

my version is far, far away from Solomon.

There is a similar version of mine around; marketed by a "famous" french gimmick seller; but mine is better. For the principle itself, no rights required. But mine is different, anyway.
