Magic History at S.A.M. 2015 Convention in Philadelphia

Postby MarkWeidhaas » November 26th, 2014, 4:31 pm

The Society of American Magicians (S.A.M.) was founded in 1902 in the back room of Martinkas Magic Shop in New York City. Although W. Golden Mortimer was their first President, it was Harry Houdini, the organization’s 11th President, serving from 1917 to 1926, who was instrumental in taking the organization to a National level, helping to establish Assembly charters in many other cities. Houdini was the first to preside over the new National body.

Philadelphia Assembly 4 was one of these early formed clubs and has a great deal of magic history. S.A.M. National Historian and Assembly 4 member Tom Ewing will host a multi-media presentation and discussion about the History of Philadelphia Magic at the S.A.M. Annual Convention in Philadelphia, July 1-4, 2015. The S.A.M. Convention will have other items of interest for the magic history buff and magic collector, including A Night at the Museum interview with the 2015 Convention Honoree, Mr. Ray Goulet, owner of the Magic Art Studio and Mini-Museum of Magic.
