Any Reason to think the signature isn't real?

Postby billmccloskey » August 25th, 2014, 2:58 pm

I just picked up a copy of Marlo's Magazine #2 on ebay. I know there are fakes out there but it just arrived and it certain seams authentic. The paper quality seems from the period, not that I'm an expert, but it seems original.

it is not numbered but it is signed by Ed Maro and inscribed to Jay Marshall! Sig reads:

" To Jay Marshall
"With Best Wishes"
Ed Marlo
Oct-23nd-1977"

Any reason to believe it isn't real and Jay Marshall's copy of Marlo Magazine #2?

All of this is complicate by the fact that Marlo allowed people to make "authorized copies" of the Marlo Magazine, at least the first two.

I would assume that since it was going to Jay Marshall that it was an original printing, assuming the signature is legit, and the date of the signature is just the next month after it was printed according to the the copyright. I'll assume it is legit unless someone tells me otherwise.

Bill, if THIS is the copy that you purchased, then you can be sure that it is an original.

You will note the seller's name is jayandlefty and is located in Chicago. These are items from the Jay Marshall estate.

Marlo sold photocopies of the magazines himself. And he signed them. The copy of Marlo Magazine 1 that he sold me was a signed photocopy.

I had a letter from Byron Walker where he assures me that Marlo allowed some people to make authorized photocopies. He sold one of those to me. I gave it to a buyer of that Magazine after he independently confirmed with Byron it was true. I will trust Byron on this one.

A good piece. If Sandy doesn't have legit Jay Marshall material, no one does. Sandy is honest and very decent, to say the least.
