[WATCH WINDERS HANDBOOK Collectors Lot] This is a unique three-piece package consisting of: ALGONQUIN MCDUFF'S WATCH WINDER HANDBOOK. Greenville, SC, Jester's Press, 1992. Second edition, but containing a sticker proclaiming it a “Special Author’s Presentation Copy” (48pp., illus., 16mo. in wraps); Plus a seldom seen First edition of THE WATCH WINDERS HANDBOOK privately published by Jester’s Press April 1, 1990. This primitive first being a skimpy 16pp. prototype—similarly sized with the same content that was expanded and appeared in the second edition; the third item in the lot is a letter from Dexter Cleveland (apparently Mr. McDuff’s secretary) dated 4/17/92 to Watch Winder Book Contributors explaining it all, including a reference to the much sought-after, but never seen commemorative Collector’s Edition printed on parchment and cosecuitively numbered. A post script to the letter explains the enclosed “rare & quasi-valuable 1st edition” is so unusual that neither Jay Marshall nor George Daily own a copy. All fine – and a fun bit of spoofery for ardent collectors. Do I hear $50.00
