Only thing close I've found so far is in "Al Baker's Pet Secrets" for "The Impossible Force":

"I realize that many magicians give up much too soon when they read trick description that asks them to force the same card three times."

Was he referring to Hofzinser's Metamorphosis of a Flying Card? There's a nice change at the end. ;)

Richard, you gave the answer on Genii 2004 December, page 91:

"We must never forget that the
details of presentation are what make a trick. And study and
thought brings us those details. If you have a trick you like
but never do because of some weak or unnatural or illogical
part, don't lay it asidejust begin thinking. What I mean is
thinking about that part. You will be surprised how a brilliant
idea will crop up and you will be surprised even more that
you hadn't thought of it before. The usual trouble is that we
don't bother to think long enough or hard enough" ("What
Makes a Trick," The Sphinx, Vol.40, No.1, March 1941)."

Great find Philippe! Just in case it was not obvious, that "What makes a Trick" in Sphinx is by Al Baker.

But don't forget that David Ben quote also Al Baker in Genii 1984 July, page 519.
