Puzzle with a large card....where?

Postby MaxNY » August 12th, 2011, 8:32 am

I was watching old Paul Daniels last night. he did a card trick/puzzle where he had a large playing card cut into 7 or 8 pieces, they were mixed up on a table... upside down. He had a spectator "build" the card together (upside down), and with using the white borders it could be done, (with a little help from Paul.) The pieces were then mixed up, and turned right side up, and again the puzzle was put together, but this time there was extra piece (smaller square.)

Does anyone know where I can find this? Was this ever for sale?

What you're describing sounds like Masao Atsukawa's "Warp 9":

It was marketed by SEO, and published in the May, 2000 issue of Genii.

Hi, MaxNY

>Check out issue 18 of The Chronicles for "Paradox" by Mitsunobu Matsuyama.

In a separate email, I sent you the pages of the Chronicle issue in which it appears.
The idea was first invented by Masao Atsukawa, then by Yasuo Kiga, as I told to Karl Fulves on pp. 1237-1238.

The Masao Atsukawas original version appeared in the New Magic, September, 1967, and he continued to create several different versions.
The version David Acer talked about would be the finest one.

I wonder what version Paul Daniels performed.

You guys are the best!! Paul did Mitsunobu Matsuyama's Paradox...because there was an extra "brick left over.". He may have given an extra cut to the larger/longer pieces making 7 pieces.

There's a simple version with a jumbo card called Business Card Paradox by Robert Page which can be seen among some fantastic versions here: http://www.marianotomatis.it/blog/index ... t=20110707
