That would be Martin on the left, I believe.

Yep, that's a great George Karger shot that Gardner (who was publicity chairman for the convention) suggested and set up. Johnny Platt is holding the billiard balls.

Yes, and that would be Paul Stadelman in the middle.

Who's the gal doing the double lift?

Who cares about the gal. Everybody is looking at Stadelman's Balls.

What a wonderful picture!

Magic triumphing over boobies.

A rare thing!

I've been meaning to talk to you about that...

Caption could have read "magicians engage in fore-play at strip club".

Jon,

There's no hyphen in foreplay. Unless that was intended as verbal foreplay.

Is there a hypen in anal-retentive?

Very good!

Thing is, I didn't get that gag, and I fear every single one of your posts has a gag or reference I fail to get.

Someone should do an Annotated Townsend.

I sit corrected, and humbled.

Nicely played through.

Then you would have appreciated MagicCon 2010's welcoming party. There were two very lovely models standing around for photos. Surrounded by magicians performing moves and flourishes, the models were totally ignored.

Then the models started handing out D&D playing cards, and the magicians were on them like locusts on a corn field. But as soon as the cards ran out, the models were ignored again.

In 2006, Ken Trombly hosted the Magic Collectors Association in Roslyn, VA, just across the Potomac from DC. Big convention full of the heaviest hitters in magic and magic history. In a room downstairs, he set up his beautiful $28K levitation, and hired two beautiful young models to staff the thing so that anyone who wanted to could come get their picture taken while standing behind it looking like Thurston or someone of that era.

Late in the weekend, I wandered in and did ten minutes of stand-up card tricks for the ladies and wouldn't you know itthey told me not one person before me during the whole weekend had performed anything for them.

In other words, I'm not surprised.

Well, Brian, it was the MCA convention. I've attended several and it always surprises me how very little magic is performed in general, not just for laymen who happen to be nearby.

Well, the ladies were rather disappointed, thinking they'd at least get to see someone do something.

Great story. So, is it the magicians are more interested in watching each other's sleights, or too scared to converse with the ladies in tights?

You see the same phenomenon at comic conventions or at any other gathering with a high geek quotient. (or at any high school for that matter :) ).
