Okay, this isn't going to appeal to everybody, and I'm not certain that this is the right location for the posting, BUT, a new edition of Manly P. Hall's The Secret Teachings of All Ages from Tarcher/Penguin has just been released.

It can loosely be classified as magic "history." Indeed it is a history of magic, but not in the most common sense used by members of this board. The subtitle is :"An Encyclopedic Outline of Masonic, Hermetic, Qabbalistic and Rosicrucian Symbolical Philosophy." Huston Smith called it "a masterful summation of the esoteric teachings of the ages." Amen.

I call it wonderful wheat for the mental grist mills of bizzare magicians, mentalists, and magician-provocatuers everywhere.

If you're looking for an interesting and different take on presentation--a hook--this book is a good point of embarcation....

P.S. It's got lots of neat pictures, too.
