Carazini, eating cigarettes in 1975.
The hosting site is an archive of French film. Lots more magic, just put "magie" into the search engine. Here, for example, is James Mason sawing a woman in half. A magic convention. Norm Nielsen. Gary Kurtz. Jules Dhotel.

Re: Tom Mullica's godfather?
I was just talking about Jim Carazini the night before last.
Amazing act. He would walk into the venue a minute before showtime, and walk directly onto the stage. No costume, no make-up, no set-up.
(Remind me some time, and I'll tell you about his offstage smoking habit.)
And the "godfather" of Carazini was Surely Chaz Chase:

Re: Tom Mullica's godfather?
Ron Wilson, writing in Tales from the Uncanny Scot :
"I still smile as I recall the night Carazini was on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. He was introduced as a specialist in smog and air pollution. Sitting next to Johnny, he uttered a few incomprehensible sentences about the smog problem in Los Angeles. As he continued to talk, little wisps of smoke could be seen coming from the corners of his mouth. Johnny did a few "puzzled look" double takes he was so famous for. The more Jim spoke, the more smoke began to billow out. It was a very funny scene and Johnny played it to the hilt."
