Is it legal?

Postby Bill Withers » October 8th, 2007, 7:05 pm

I know that there has always been issues over whether or not you can copyright a trick/idea, but I just recently saw someone trying to sell a rendition of BOXBACK by Tomo Maeda on ebay. Not only was the performance sloppy, but the price was about 10 bucks for a crappy video tutorial! If I find the link, I will post it, but is this legal? I know that with the interest in these books that there have been some illegal PDFS and Ebooks floating around, but is it legal to sell Boxback in this forM?

As best I understand the matter:

Copyright covers the actual text. The order of the characters on the page NOT the intellectual contents (ideas) contained within that text.

If they are not using the EXACT video or the EXACT text... it's legal. IE would be legal to paraphrase the text and perform the video and sell that too.

So in short... yes it is legal and that's the law.

 stupid law

So basically Ellusionist does not have any right shutting down peoples' Youtube accounts for exposing their "wonderful tricks?"

In some cases I don't mind this law, but I agree this law is BS.
