Tenyo 2008

Postby Guest » September 24th, 2007, 3:20 am

I know we have some Tenyo fans on the Genii forum - including, of course, RK - and I've found some details on 3 of the new releases:

1. Balloon Illusion - a balloon is inflated inside a tube and 2 little plastic swords can then penetrate tube and balloon.

2.Mahono Scope (Magic Scope) - This one sounds like Hypervision. The spectator selects one of 4 objects which are placed on a stand. The performer can tell which was selected on looking through the special scope.

3.Fortune Donut - The spectator selects one of 12 playing cards that are printed on a ring/donut shaped card. When the performer cuts the selection out, its back design is red, whilst the remaining 11 are all blue. Will obviously need refills.

The names of the effects may yet change for the English-speaking market.

Thanks, Daniel, I've been waiting for advance samples of the 2008 line to show up at the Genii office so I can do the usual write-up for December--but you've scooped it!

There is one more Tenyo item (4 in total) that mentalists will enjoy.

I am almost done writing the English instructions for all of the 2008 items.

Great to hear about the new Tenyo. They make life sweet. But how come there is nothing by Lubor Fiedler? It has been waaaay too long since Tenyo released one of his tricks...

Two others:
Super Spoon Bend

White Impact -- the name given to the Japanese version of Mathieu Bich's Spreadwave! I'm guessing this may be only available in Japanese...?

There will be five new releases from Tenyo in Japan, but only four in the United States. The Bich trick is probably the one going only to Japan.

Spreadwave is available, but not from Tenyo. I know the Magic Apple in Studio City, CA has it, because I got mine there.

Does anyone know, will these products be from the usuals? Tooru Suzuki with the occasional Hideo Kato? Any info would be appreciated.

Kato retired from Tenyo a few years ago and now works for Mr. Maric.

It's great news to see that two of the new items are from Shigeru Sugawara, since he's always been one of Tenyo's most clever inventors.

I know Kato is now working for Mr. Maric, but doesn't he occasionally contribute to Tenyo?

We have just received our 2008 samples and here are some notes.

Balloon Illusion - This one uses a new method for pushing two spikes through a q260 balloon after it is slipped into a tube. It looks neat with a yellow or white balloon as the red spikes are visible inside the balloon. A good one for balloon twisters.

Fortune Donut - Using scissors, a freely selected card is cut from a ring with cards printed on it. When turned over, it is the only one with a red back. You receive the cardboard discs and a small pair of scissors which are ungimmicked.

Mystic Scope - Looking through a tube, you can determine which object the spectator selected.
This is an improved version of Hypervision which we've always liked.

Ultimate Spoon Bend - A small metal spoon visibly bends and breaks. Similar to perfect bend, though the broken pieces can be handed out.

We liked last years lineup more, but these are certainly worth taking a look at. They will each retail in the $35 - $40 range.

Like last year, we are offering a pre-order special. The special is $119 for all four, postage paid in the US, foreign is $10 extra. We will be shipping these in December (with American packaging). If you would like to be first in line for a set, paypal to magic@martinka.com or call us with a credit card at 201-444-7576.

We also have last years lineup of five effects still available at $149 for the set.

Thank you,

Ted

I have a underground video with Ballon Illusion in my computer and it looks wonderful. Very clever. Must be perfect for kids shows and shows for big kids, too.

The Illusion Scale is an amazing trick. I've asked the guys at Tenyo why they don't put this out in the United States and all they do is smile at me, whatever the hell that means. Damn shame, because it's a great trick--you can really see people's eyes bulge!

This person on eBay used to have it, but must have sold it. He has, however, lots of other good Tenyo items from Japan, including the three Disney Halloween items I showed in the December issue:

Click Here to See his eBay Store.

Note that I have never purchased anything from this seller, so can't vouch for him. He does, however, have 100% positive feedback.

I have purchased three items from this seller and they all arrived four days after I purchased them. In other words it took less time for the package to reach me here in California from Japan than a package sent from the east coast. His communication with sellers is also excellent.

Can the new Balloon Illusion have a cursory examination by a spectator?

There is no gimmick per se used in the balloon trick. The tube has a modification to it that might well go unnoticed if the spectator looks at it.

Thanks for the recommendation and ebay link on Sakkaku Scale (or Illusion Scale). Bought one and two other Tenyos last night from magico-japan...nice prices, too.

Guess I was lucky that there was one on sale

Thanks Richard.

As you know, many of the Tenyo effects have locking mechanisms so they can be examined before or after the performance.

Thats what I was trying to figure out on this piece.

There is no mechanism on the balloon trick--nothing moves, so there's nothing to lock. There is a gimmick, but it's really not a gimmick in the sense most people think of one.
