The Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino has caught fire as of 2PM EST Friday. Any word on Lance and his show?

According to the Vegas TV stations the fire is out.

It appears that it was confined to the upper stories of the hotel, so it is unlikely that any of Lance's gear was affected.

I have heard nothing about whether there will be a show tonight.

Michael,

Please let us know if you hear anything: Thanks.

Now that the fire is out and it appears no one was injured, lets make fun of the people who actually asked the fire authority, If the fire is on the roof why cant we stay here [in the casino] and gamble? The head of the Clark County FA actually had to explain it (his address was carried on the radio here).

When the news broke here I was in my car going to a meeting. The only information they had at the time was that a fire had broke out at the Monte Carlo. All I could think for over an hour was, Its either going to be no major deal or the biggest catastrophe since the MGM fire all those years ago.

Thank goodness its the former.

Dustin

First joke:

CCFA: Sir, you have to evacuate the building due to fire.

Gambler: But my dice are hot!

Don't laugh Dustin. FOX News reported that they were still gambling during the fire.

I had not realized the Monte Carlo had opened so long ago, (1996), it's been almost 12 years, it's nearly time to implode it and build a new casino.

Wasn't Lance's contract for 12 years?

I had heard a rumor a few years ago, that when his contract was up, he was not going to re-sign.

Not so far from the truth, in 1991, when the Oakland fire was starting, I was working in the cage (cashier) in a San Jose cardroom. There was a gambler, who was losing $25,000 in a game, and he kept taking short breaks to call his parents home to see if they had successfully gotten his wife and kids out of thier Oakland hills home, back to his parents home for safe keeping. His home was going to burn, they knew it was in an unsavable area, so when I asked him, why was he still here at the casino, his reply was "by the time I drive there, my home was going to be burned down anyways (about an hour drive)so there wasn't anything I could do about it." after he told me that, he went back to sit at his pai gow game.

Got an email from Joe Stevens. He said he had checked out and just left when the fire started.
Stay tooned.

Some info on the cause of the fire, from CNN :

A fire at the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino in Las Vegas last week was likely caused by flying molten metal from a cutting torch being used by construction crews, the Clark County Fire Department said Thursday.

...

At the time the blaze began, workers on the roof of the building were cutting corrugated steel products used for a walkway being installed around the interior border of the roof, the fire department said in a statement.

"We believe this fire could have been prevented had appropriate steps been taken," Chief Steve Smith said.

"It appears that no slag mats were used to catch the molten metal and no fire watch had been posted. Additionally, the contractor responsible for the work did not obtain the necessary 'hot works' permit. We are now reviewing whether to cite the contractor."

Meanwhile, attorneys are reviewing insurance policies.
