John Gaspard - Author of "The Linking Rings", an Eli Marks Mystery

Postby Scott Wells » December 14th, 2017, 6:18 pm

Just in time for the holidays, John Gaspard offers his fourth in the mystery novel series about Eli Marks, a fictional magician who gets embroiled in solving homicides. In this latest book, Eli Marks travels with his uncle Harry (a character loosely modeled on Jay Marshall) to London, England to visit The Magic Circle. At the end of the first chapter, Harry is left on stage with a knife sticking out of the back of another magician. Thus begins the latest mystery as Harry and a band of his friends stay at a local magician's estate (who was inspired by the late Paul Daniels) along with several other internationally known magicians and some spouses (who have characteristics resembling some magicians you might know) as many of them get "knocked off" one by one in a kind of Agatha Christie "And Then There Were None".

This week's podcast features a chat with the author who brings us up to date with an overview of the first three books and culminating in this latest one. Also, included midway into the podcast is a ten minute clip from the longer 30 minute reading of the first chapter by professional voice-over personality, Jim Cunningham. There is much to like and learn in this week's podcast, but there is also something to dislike. I apologize for the poor audio quality on John's end of the conversation, but we tried several times to record over Skype and this was the best we could get.
