The December Issue of Genii is Now Live Online!

Our cover story this month is an unusual one—it’s about a quasi-theatrical magic-related event that involves puzzle-solving on a mass scale by a large group of participants. 49 Boxes is the brainchild of Michael Borys, the Vice President of Interactive Design at 42 Entertainment, who along with Alex Lieu (Chief Creative Officer at 42E), has devised something that is unique.
We have coverage of the Genii Convention by our Art Director Mrs. Kaufman, who has created a six-page chronological photo montage you’re sure to enjoy. We also have coverage of the 600 pound gorilla of U.S. magic conventions, MAGIC Live!, by our Associate Editors Dustin Stinett and John Lovick.
Genii remembers our friends who have died recently, with obituaries for Ray Goulet and Fantasio.
Columns! Jim Steinmeyer’s “Conjuring”! Bob Read’s “Hidden Treasures”! John Gaughan’s “Chamber of Secrets”! Jon Racherbaumer’s “On the Slant”! Jonathan Pendragon’s “Panmagium”! David Kaye’s “The Expert at the Kids’ Table”! Jeff Prace’s “Left-Handed”! David Berglas’s “Master Class”! Todd Karr’s “The Eye”! Book reviews! Trick reviews! Video reviews! Audio columns and videos! I am breathless with enthusiasm.
For the next three issues we will continue to remember Eugene Burger by running three videos he prepared for columns he was unable to complete before his death. This month he talks about the business of magic.

David Ben's Penguin Live lecture receives a well-deserved rave review for the second consecutive month!

I agree with every word from both reviews. It and the Ken Brooke lecture I saw aged 18, are the two best I have seen.

The vast majority of magicians who do fecky card tricks ('Penguin' and 'At the Table' lectures are full of them) should be made watch Ben's lecture over and over until it dawns on them how compelling good card magic can be.

The same person that designs all the covers I expect.

Not that my 2 cents adds anything, but this was terrific. Just the performance of the knives was worth the price of admission. Of course the explanation was more good information than most books or 4 disc DVD sets. A rare "not to be missed".

Q. Kumber's statement above, ........until it dawns on them how compelling good card magic can be gets right to the point. I fear that few will understand it though.

Information can be found at the bottom of the left hand column on page 5.
Not the one who created the Potter Index.

My wife is the Art Director, and she designs everything in Genii including the covers.

I always most enjoy the covers that break the mold of the yearly template.

John Lovick's brief audio interview of John Archer is superb.

It's like half a Eugene Burger book condensed into 11 minutes. The importance of finding one's character, how to avoid a common pitfall and recognize what is NOT one's character, even the importance of blocking to present a variety of physical configurations/shapes on stage
to subtly aid in keeping the audience's focus...

Highly, highly recommended. Page 11.

Hi, I'm really digging my online subscription to Genii since I've been traveling abroad. One question-- where in the Dec issue do I find the Eugene Burger business of magic video you mention here and in the magazine viewer. Would anyone help me find it? Thank you.
